Manufacturing Consent: Youth, Miseducation, and the Politics of Mass Incarceration (ASPE)
August 26 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Black August requires us not only to remember political prisoners, but to understand the systems that made their imprisonment possible and continue to criminalize resistance today. Together, we will examine how schools, media, entertainment, and political institutions manufacture consent for policing and mass incarceration by criminalizing Black youth and erasing the history of revolutionary struggle and political imprisonment. We will explore how these narratives legitimize state repression and shape public understanding of prison, while discussing how community control of education, media literacy, and political history can help build a new generation committed to liberation.
Light snacks and refreshments provided, and all are welcome.
