Transit Solidarity Program
Every day, thousands of Washington, DC residents rely on Metro to get to work, school, medical appointments, grocery stores, and care for their families. But for many working-class residents—especially in Wards 7 and 8—the rising cost of transportation has become another barrier to meeting basic needs. At the same time, increased fare enforcement has placed additional burdens on communities already facing high housing costs, unemployment, displacement, and economic inequality.
Transit Solidarity is a mutual aid initiative of the Pan-African Community Action (PACA) that helps keep our neighbors moving by distributing donated and community-funded SmarTrip cards while organizing for a transportation system that serves people—not profit.
Launching on August 8th, 2026, at the Anacostia Metro Station.
