Community Control Over Public Safety

September 17, 2025 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
An Assata Shakur Study Groups session of Pan-African Community Action (PACA)

The deployment of federal agents and National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., now expected to extend into December, is a militarized occupation disguised as a public safety initiative. The move weaponizes the state’s power to criminalize poverty and suppress dissent in the U.S.’ capital city, while ignoring the root issues that lead to street-level crime.

Join Pan-African Community Action (PACA) for the next Assata Shakur Study Group on why and how a revolutionary response to the current federal and local government collaboration to protect the interests of capital and white supremacy must be centered around the long term struggle to build toward decolonization, power, and self-determination. This is not simply about opposing repression. It is about building power — the ability of our communities to determine for ourselves how safety, security and decision making are organized.

Light snacks and refreshments will be provided!
