Malcolm X Day Community Speak Out
We call on you to join us for the Malcolm X Day Community Speakout on Sunday, May 18th from 1:00 to 3:30 PM, on his 100th Birthday.
This speakout, hosted by Pan African Community Action, Malcolm X Grassroots Movement DC Chapter, Diaspora Palante Collective, the Palestinian Youth Movement-DMV, and the All-African People’s Revolutionary Party, is to honor the legacy of Malcolm X by continuing his work — not through symbolic remembrance, but through political action, grassroots organizing, and community connection. For over 20 years, Malcolm X Day was commemorated in SE DC and we hope to reignite that tradition with the year’s speakout.
This is not a symbolic celebration — it’s a call to action.
We believe the only way to confront and transform these conditions is through mass movement building, strong grassroots organizations, and a clear strategy to organize for and win power in our communities. Malcolm X taught that liberation would not come from appealing to systems that oppress us, but through collective struggle, political education, and community-led resistance.
“Power in defense of freedom is greater than power in behalf of tyranny and oppression, because power, real power, comes from conviction which produces action, uncompromising action. It also produces insurrection against oppression. This is the only way you end oppression—with power.” -Malcolm X
