We are pleased to announce “Unveiling Truth and Inspiring Change,” a Brown Bag Hybrid Event on June 5, 2023, at the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, DC. For those who will be in person, lunch will be provided.

This event aims to raise awareness and foster discussions surrounding the book “Survivors Uncensored: 100 + Testimonies of Resilience and Humanity,” co-authored by Claude Gatebuke and Delphine Yandemutso.

“Survivors Uncensored” is a powerful collection of testimonies from survivors of the Rwandan genocide in 1994 as well as pre and post genocide atrocities including in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The book offers poignant insights into their experiences and showcases stories of resilience and humanity. Through this event, we endeavor to call attention to the need for healing, reconciliation, accountability, and peace promotion.

Additionally, the event aims to shed light on the role of the U.S. and the West in atrocities currently occurring in DR Congo, spanning from 1996 to today. By raising awareness of these ongoing struggles, we aspire to promote justice, accountability, and a deeper understanding of the Congolese people’s plight and a path to lasting peace.

The event will feature presentations from the esteemed co-authors, Claude Gatebuke and Delphine Yandemutso, and Salome Ayuak of the Black Alliance for Peace.

Special guest LIVE from Kisangani province, DRC who will delve into the deeply moving narratives captured within “Survivors Uncensored” and their connection to the U.S. and the wider global community. Attendees will have the invaluable opportunity to interact directly with the authors, as they will be available to sign copies of the book on-site. For those who do not have copies of the book, there will be some books on hand for purchase.

Moderator: Steven Nabieu Rogers, Africa Faith and Justice Network. There will be a welcoming by IPS Director Tope Folarin.

The book is available for purchase on Amazon.

We extend a warm invitation to academics, researchers, policymakers, human rights advocates, and all individuals interested in the importance of healing, reconciliation, and peace promotion to join us for this vital discussion. Let us come together to honor the survivors’ voices, gain insights from their experiences, and collectively work towards a more compassionate and just future.

This unique hybrid event format allows for both in-person and online participation, ensuring a wider audience can engage in the dialogue. Attendees have the option to join us physically at the Institute for Policy Studies or remotely through our interactive virtual platform.
