SUMMARY:From Gary to DC: Building Power Under Domestic Colonialism - ASPE
DESCRIPTION:After severe storms left thousands in majority-Black Gary\, Indiana\, without power for days\, residents were forced to confront a deeper question: who controls the infrastructure our communities depend on? This Assata Shakur Popular Education (ASPE) session connects Gary’s current crisis to DC’s struggles over utilities\, development\, and political self-determination through the framework of domestic colonialism. We’ll examine how outside governments and corporations extract from Black communities while limiting their control over essential resources and institutions. And we’ll discuss what it means to build organized community power capable of challenging that control. \nFood will be provided! \nThe ASPE are hybrid sessions with the option to participate via Zoom. To join via Zoom use this link https://tinyurl.com/africansstudy

SUMMARY:Transit Solidarity Program
DESCRIPTION:Every day\, thousands of Washington\, DC residents rely on Metro to get to work\, school\, medical appointments\, grocery stores\, and care for their families. But for many working-class residents—especially in Wards 7 and 8—the rising cost of transportation has become another barrier to meeting basic needs. At the same time\, increased fare enforcement has placed additional burdens on communities already facing high housing costs\, unemployment\, displacement\, and economic inequality.  \nTransit Solidarity is a mutual aid initiative of the Pan-African Community Action (PACA) that helps keep our neighbors moving by distributing donated and community-funded SmarTrip cards while organizing for a transportation system that serves people—not profit.  \nEvery second Saturday of the month at the Anacostia Metro Station.

SUMMARY:Building a People’s Democracy: A Southeast Community Townhall
DESCRIPTION:What would it look like if Southeast D.C. residents had a direct say in the decisions and resources that shape our communities? Join Pan-African Community Action (PACA) for Building a People’s Democracy—a People’s Assembly where Southeast residents will engage in participatory democracy. This is a space for community decision-making\, not just community input. Participants will review three proposed community projects and their budgets\, discuss possible changes\, and vote on which project will receive community funding and support. \nTogether\, we’ll discuss community priorities\, learn about PACA’s Community Control DC platform\, and demonstrate what it can look like when working-class Black communities have a direct role in the decisions that affect us. \n\nVote on a community project\nParticipate in democratic budgeting\nDiscuss community needs and priorities\nLearn about Community Control DC\n\nA people’s democracy means more than having a voice. It means having the power to decide. \nFree and open to the community. Lunch will be provided.  PLEASE REGISTER
