SUMMARY:Unpacking the History of the Black Radical Tradition
DESCRIPTION:The Black Radical Tradition is a historical current of organized struggle rooted in socialist\, Pan-African\, internationalist\, and decolonial politics that confronts racial capitalism\, internal colonialism\, and imperial domination. This session unpacks how that tradition has been systematically whitewashed and commodified\, reducing revolutionary movements and figures into harmless symbols while erasing their politics\, organizations\, and strategies. We will examine concrete examples of organized resistance—from RAM and the Panthers to international solidarities with Haiti\, Cuba\, and Palestine—to assess how different tactics emerged from real material conditions and what they achieved in practice. \nThe discussion will focus on how today’s movements\, including Pan-African Community Action’s (PACA’s) work for community control and Pan-African unity\, must reclaim this lineage and build durable organization capable of resisting liberal cooptation and sustaining long-term struggles for liberation. \nLight snacks and refreshments will be provided! \nThis is a hybrid event with an option to participate online. SUMMARY:People's Pan-African Wellness Front - Health Services for the People by the People
DESCRIPTION:D.C.’s healthcare system\, like the rest of the U.S.\, is profit-driven and structurally racist. Black residents—especially those east of the Anacostia River—suffer from higher rates of chronic illness and maternal mortality and life expectancy gaps of over 15 years compared to white residents. On Sunday February 22nd Pan-African Community Action (PACA) will launch a revolutionary survival program to provide practical services while building political power. The People’s Pan-African Wellness Front (PPWF) is a community-based grassroots program led by PACA to confront the health disparities impacting African/Black working-class communities in Southeast Washington\, D.C. Inspired by revolutionary legacies like the Black Panther Party’s People’s Free Medical Clinics and the Cuban healthcare model\, this program seeks to deliver immediate relief while organizing toward long-term self-determination and community control of health. \nThe PPWF will provide: \n\nFree high blood pressure screenings\nFree glucose tests (diabetes screening)\nFree hygiene products and medical supplies\,\nFree health information and guidance for preventative care\n\nAs well as political education on community control of health and radical health programs\, including the Black Panther Party’s Free Medical Clinics and the Lincoln Detox Center. Medical professionals will also be available to answer health-related questions. Come out February 22nd either to receive services and/or to learn how to come involved with later phases of the program to scale up services\, expand into more neighborhoods\, and anchor broader campaigns around community control. This effort is part of PACA’s broader strategy to build forums for participatory democracy and build a mass movement for power. \nThis is more than a health program—it’s a step toward Black self-determination. We welcome healthcare workers\, students\, community members\, and all who are ready to organize\, learn\, and  build power.

For seventeen years\, AFRICOM (the U.S. Africa Command) has operated as a key instrument of U.S. imperialism—extending the power of a settler-colonial state whose reach spans from occupied land here to the African continent. \nThis session will unpack the global and local dimensions of empire\, connecting U.S. military operations abroad with the systems of policing\, displacement\, and economic exploitation that target Black working-class communities at home. Together\, we’ll challenge myths that obscure how neocolonialism functions today\, examine the role of collaboration and misleadership in sustaining it\, and draw lessons from past anti-colonial and civil rights struggles that inform our fight for liberation now. \nJoin Pan-African Community Action (PACA)\, the Black Alliance for Peace – DC\, and the All-African People’s Revolutionary Party (DMV) for the October 22 Assata Shakur Study Group to deepen political clarity and strengthen a Pan-African movement to dismantle AFRICOM and all arms of empire. \n—————————————————– \nTHE OCTOBER 8th session of the Assata Shakur Study Group session was our first contribution to the 5th International Month of Action Against AFRICOM. Arrests\, deportations\, and raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have surged in Washington\, D.C. as a part of this crackdown and has also emboldened the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to harass and make more arrests of Black working class people\, especially our youth. \nThe false notion that the policies of the federal and local DC governments are for public safety must be rejected. The debate over federal takeover versus local government control is a distraction. The only solution to both community safety and government repression is to organize for power. Not reform. The bill allows police to detain and identify people for public transportation fare evasion\, stop people for mask wearing if they believe they’re “suspicious”\, and create “drug free zones” making it illegal to gather in certain areas for up to five days. \nNo adequate solutions are provided that address the root issues that lead to street-level crime: poverty\, addiction\, food insecurity\, inadequate housing\, and capitalist exploitation. Instead\, the bill targets the Black working class people in DC\, particularly the youth of Southeast DC. \nPan-African Community Action (PACA) invites you to this community townhall meeting designed to unpack the implications of the crime bill and discuss real solutions for community safety\, including Community Control Over the Police! \nLunch will be provided and there will be a live performance by the DC Afro Go-Go roots collective Crank Lu’Kongo Unplugged. \nThis event is free and open to the public. Bin Wahad not only explores how white supremacist politics have recaptured the American imagination but also prescribes a radical grassroots response to counter this ideology and supplant the violent state repression that keeps it in power. \nEngage directly with Dhoruba Bin Wahad live from his residence in Ghana for the DC launch of his book\, in a discussion that pieces together fight-back strategies against the police and the state through a process of mobilizing in the streets\, on the block\, and in our communities\, while gathering mass through antifascist coalition-building in a manner unrealized since the 1960s and 1970s. At this Black Liberation Book Talk you will get a primer on how Bin Wahad grounds us in the now\, seamlessly weaving together firsthand accounts of his own and other’s revolutionary past in the history of struggle\, alongside lessons for today and books will be available for purchase. \nDhoruba bin-Wahad was a leading member of the NY Black Panther Party\, a Field Secretary responsible for organizing chapters throughout the East Coast\, and a member of the Panther 21. Arrested in June 1971\, he was framed as part of the illegal FBI Counter Intelligence Program (COINTELPRO) and subjected to unfair treatment and torture during his nineteen years in prison. During Dhoruba’s incarceration\, litigation on his behalf produced over 300\,000 pages of COINTELPRO documentation\, and upon release in 1990 he was able to bring a successful lawsuit against the NY Depart. of Corrections for their criminal activities. DESCRIPTION:This Washington DC event will coincide with the commemoration of Sobukwe’s legacy to be held in Azania the following day.\n\n\n\nDecember 5\, 2024 will mark the 100th birthday of Mangaliso Robert Sobukwe. Sobukwe was an Azanian (South African) revolutionary Pan-Africanist and founding member of the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC)\, who served as the first president of the organization. This FREE Washington DC event on Friday\, December 6th will coincide with the commemoration of Sobukwe’s legacy to be held in Azania the following day. The event will be a screening and discussion of a renewed version of the film Sobukwe: A Great Soulby Mickey Madoda Dube about uTatu Sobukwe\, followed by a panel of speakers that will include via zoom Mickey Madoda Dube joining us all the way from South Africa. \nAbout the Film: Sobukwe: A Great Soul celebrates the life of Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe\, restoring him to his rightful place as a leading figure in South African history. Despite his pivotal role in the struggle for liberation (and as the founder of the Pan Africanist Congress)\, there isn’t a single piece of archive of the man who was once one of the most watched\, recorded\, and popular political prisoners in the world. Even the current South African government has failed to recognize his place in history and the relevance of his message today. DESCRIPTION:A National Day of Action\, in-person Teach-in About the Impacts of U.S. Police Terror in The DC Metropolitan Area. This is in-person only.\n\n\n\nOur communities are fed a steady diet of propaganda showcasing the police as the only solution to crime and violence in our communities. While DC Mayor Bowser and MPD Chief Robert Contee criminalize the Black working class victims of poverty created by capitalism\, Black\, Brown and indigenous working class people are turned into expendable populations. So\, what must be done? \nIn response to the call for a “National Day of Action Against Police Terror” we invite all DC area activists and organizers\, and the community at-large to this teach-in that will address the implications of: increasing domestic and international policing\, Cop City in Atlanta GA\, the MPD national recruitment campaign\, and Howard University’s contract with the DOD making it a Military Research Center. \nCome join your community to get updates on local activities and campaigns and to engage in a movement wide discussion abut Community Control Over Police as a viable response to police violence. \nFree food and drink will be served.
